From December 4-10 2016, the Minnesota Department of Health is urging everyone who has not received a flu shot yet this season to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Between December and February is when the flu activity usually reaches its highest according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Influenza is an extremely contagious respiratory infection and can be life-threatening.
That is why they are really encouraging those six months old and older to get the flu shot.
At least one Twin Cities hospital has seen a flu case but the numbers have picked up in the past two weeks. Flu shots are very important for seniors. In fact, there is a special vaccine formulated just for seniors.
Most health insurance plans cover flu vaccines. Check with your provider or the Vaccine Clinic Look-Up on the state health department´s website.
